Governor Clarifies That Businesses May Not Assume Unmasked Patrons Are Medically Unable To Wear One

Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a revised mask-wearing order, (E.O. 2020-153) clarifying that a business may not assume that an unmasked customer is medically unable to tolerate a mask, but may accept a verbal representation that they are medically unable. Practically, this means that funeral home personnel must ask those unmasked individuals seeking to attend funeral and visitation services to wear a mask, and if the individual responds that they are physically unable to do so, the funeral home may rely upon that representation.
