Governor Signs Licensed Manager Bill Into Law

Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Senate Bill 696 into law as Public Act 138 of 2020. As members are aware, the measure, introduced by Senator Rick Outman (R-Six Lakes), would allow a mortuary science licensee to petition the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs ("LARA") for a waiver to manage a second funeral home if the following criteria are met:

If the petition is denied, the applicant may appeal the decision to the State Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science.

The new law goes into effect on Tuesday, October 6th (90 days following the Governor's signature), and MFDA will keep you apprised as LARA plans for implementation.
